The troubled Cresecent Club on North End Road shuts shop

back to General Environment
After the second fatal stabbing in 6 months, The Crescent Club has been shut and the bailiffs are in. After local opposition managed to stop a Lap Dancing application from going through the venue was run as a champagne bar and nightclub. Plagued by violence and causing numerous problems for locals from the outset, it is a disgrace that it took two deaths before the council could revoke the Crescent's license. The laws concerning licensing venues in residential area smust be changed!! Why can common sense not prevail in issues like this? West Kensington as a neighbourhood is on the up and has a strong local community. Hopefully this experience will teach residents to get involved in local issues and insist on being involved!! Thanks to Cllr Alexandra Robson for her tireless work - lets hope something of value to the area opens up in the space soon.

I couldn't agree more about the tireless work of Alexandra - and that of Joe Carlebach of the Avonmore Residents. I believe that the law HAS now been changed so that Lap Dancing can no longer hide behind ordinary licensing applications - or at least is about to change (I read an article about it so it must be true!)
